I like when things make sense — whether it’s my desk, my Figma files, or my cat’s toys. But I also like when things don’t — because that’s usually where the fun begins.
I’m Gaurav, from India.
Got into design out of curiosity, stuck around for the mess.
Where it started
In 2018, I joined a friend’s startup as an everything-designer. Logos, merch, pitch decks, apps, websites — if it had pixels, I probably touched it. That early chaos taught me the joy of building — of turning abstract ideas into actual things.
From hardware to humans
After finishing engineering in 2020, I pivoted into engineering roles, testing smart switchgear with python scripts. I got so deep into the system that I ended up demoing it to clients & led the Innovation Hub at Schneider's R&D centre in Bangalore.
Here's what my manager & colleagues had to say about me -
Planning & running demos, it clicked - good design isn’t just what’s on the screen, it’s what makes sense in someone’s head.
So, I shifted focus. Went back into design with a better grasp of how things work behind the screen & a clearer understanding of how people react to what’s on it.
Going deeper into UX
Moved to the UK for a Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction @ University of Nottingham. Learned from brilliant professors & curious peers.
One quote I’ll never forget -
“Most breakthrough tech starts with either games or porn, then finds its way into the mainstream”
– Dr. Paul Tennent
Graduated with distinction in Sept, 2024.
Since then, I’ve freelanced, helped friends fix their startup UX messes, and jumped into a stint as Product Designer at an IC manufacturing firm — applying HCI theory to factory floors.
Testimonial from my last manager -
Now & what’s next
Design keeps my brain sharp. Lifting keeps it quiet.
And somewhere between rope skipping and obsessively reading research on Human-AI interaction, I get my best ideas.
I’m currently diving deep into Conversational UX — because if people love talking to AIs, we should probably start designing like that’s the future.
